Take-aways from the TCMG Fall Conference

What were your take-aways from the TCMG Fall Conference?  Click on Leave a Reply to share.

My take-aways? I am fascinated by bees and their secret lives inside the hive.   Mary Jo inspired me to consider new types of plants, and to pick up bulbs for forcing and  planting outside.  We are lucky to have someone like Roald Hazelhoff looking after the environment and creating ecoscapes in Alabama.

  1. I so enjoyed the companionship of my table mates for today; Brenda Lynch, Barbara Martin and Laurie Reinwald!

  2. Each speaker brought interesting information and presented it in a way that kept my attention. Wayne, bless him, has so much knowledge in that head full of hair, it just spills out. He is such a smart, humble and hilarious speaker. Love him! I especially enjoyed learning about swarms from Jim Barry. He has a relaxed demeanor and made me want to learn more about keeping bees. He is very encouraging and knowlegable. Mary Jo never disappoints and always has a new approach to her presentation. She is so generous with her time and she has so much knowledge to share. I never get tired of hearing about her plant passions, and I have always wanted to learn to force bulbs. She made me think I could. I must say I didn’t know what to expect from the “urban” thing and was pleasantly impressed by Roald Hazelhoff’s presentation. He is an excellent speaker and is truly committed to improving the environment in our great state. He is an amazing person that I didn’t even know existed before today. Kudos to our conference committee. Excellent door prizes this year as well. Good job, Laurie, Susan and Brenda! Great food. I ate way too much!

  3. It looks like the fall conference was fabulous. I hate that I had to miss it this year. I really want to know more about our precious honey bees and how we can help them survive and thus the human race survive!

    1. I never knew you could pet a bee! Jim showed how they can be rubbed along their backs! I didn’t do it because I am allergic to bees and I’m still afraid of them BUT…I admire these incredible creatures. These little bees entertained us with their “direction dances” and demonstrated their problem-solving abilities by escaping from their observation box! They are amazing, productive little creatures that we depend on for our own survival. I do everything I can do to protect and attract them to my “safe garden” that is pesticide free! SAVE OUR BEES!

  4. It is always a pleasure to be with the Tuscaloosa master gardeners. Thank you all so much for your warmth and support.
My take away is that I want to go to bee keepers meetings just to learn more about those incredible bees! Fascinating!

    1. Absolutely FANTASTIC presenters: Thanks so much Wayne Ford, Jim Barry, Mary Jo Modica, and Roald Hazelhoff! Each of your topics were timely and directly related to the conference theme: “MEETING THE CHANGING NEEDS OF GARDENERS”.

TCMG, each of you, whether individually or as a specific conference committee did an outstanding job of preparing for and carrying out the 2015 Fall Conference as were evident by the lovely registration bags and contents therein, the colorful decors throughout the auditorium, the tasty morning refreshments, the delicious lunch from McAlisters, and the “first class” door prizes.

A joyful fellowship of TCMG, guests from Birmingham and Muscle Shoals.
      An October Saturday well spent!

  5. We give you happy images of Valentine’s Day, all pictures of quotes from a mother’s day, the secret to success, motivating, optimistic, successful life, love for her, a woman’s day, a friendship day.
