Thorsby Swedish Fest

CCMGA members participated in the Thorsby Swedish Festival this year with 2 booths, selling handmade crafts, home baked goodies, potted flowers and small trees.  The weather was mild and everyone there enjoyed the day. Thanks to all the members who helped make this day a great one.

Craft Day

Craft Day was recently held in Sondra Henley’s garage and 14 wreaths were made. These were made for the sale to be held at Thorsby Swedish Fest on October 10th. Three Planter Chairs were refurbished to add to the sale of the wreaths. There will also be plants for sale at the booth hosted by CCMGA members. Attendees were Alice Broome, Diane Clapp, Linda Hays, Essie Edel, Ann Moore, Margaret Goolsby and Sondra Henley. Mildred and Jimmy Knowles contributed the vines that the wreaths were made from and Ann Stocking donated craft items. Many items were also donated by the ones attending Craft Day. Please come see us at Thorsby Swedish Fest Saturday, October 10th!!

Farm, Home, and Wildlife EXPO 2015

August 8, 2015 was the day this year for the annual Chilton Research & Extension Center’s FARM, HOME, & WILDLIFE EXPO, and what a day it was! There was a great crowd this year with many exhibits, cooking demonstrations, and fruit and ice cream samples. The EXPO is all about educating people in the skills of farming, raising animals, growing vegetables and fruits and then preserving and canning the bounty. There was a goat show, farm dogs, a miniature heifer, chickens, honeybees, and an eagle display. We had our plant sale there and did very well with it. As always, our members were a big help with the registration process, the sampling of fruit at the fruit tent, and the serving of the ice cream samples in the Little House. Chilton-Clanton Library Landscape

Members recently reworked the landscaping in the patio area of the Chilton-Clanton Public Library. Old roses were remoMembersved, old landscaping cloth removed, the soil was tilled, and the cement borders were straightened. They then planted 3 drift rose bushes, 2 Indian hawthorn shrubs, 4 autumn ferns, and planted and hung 2 baskets filled with red geraniums and lime green creeping Jenny. A donated outdoor water fountain was also hung on the longest wall. Then vinca, dusty miller, and Setcreasea (better known as Purple Heart) was added for color. The annuals were donated by members. Mini pine bark mulch was put down to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. All that needs to be done now is add the CCMGA sign and go back in a couple of weeks to see if any more mulch is needed.

Aldridge Spring Garden Tour

2015-05-20 ALDRIDGE GARDEN TOUR 051Our group really enjoyed a trip to Aldridge Gardens in Hoover this month. We had said last year when we visited in November that we definitely wanted to come back in the spring. The oak leaf hydrangeas were in full bloom and some of the french hydrangeas were just beginning to bloom. We also got to see a few of my favorites: wild flowers and bog plants. Our group was small this year, don’t know why, we had about 20 signed up originally. The ones that didn’t come really missed out on a great tour, and the weather was perfect.  I have added quite a few photos to view, you may feel like you were right there  with us! Click here for a Smilebox slideshow. Then click on FULL SCREEN SYMBOL(bottom left), then PLAY SLIDESHOW. ENJOY!
